Barry Hitchcock was born in Burton on Trent in 1944 but did most of his schooling in Derby, where he attended Central Grammar School for boys.
He joined Leys Malleable Castings as a Die Making apprentice in 1960 and on completing his apprenticeship became a fully qualified Work Study Engineer in charge of both the Derby and Lincoln sites.
Barry finally achieved the position of Production Manager in the late 70’s early 80’s and dealt extensively with the Domestic , European and American Motor Industries who purchased Car and Commercial castings from the Derby and Lincoln plants.
When the Leys facility was acquired by Williams Holdings in 1985 Barry moved down to South Wales as Managing Director of Vale Castings Ltd.
During his time at Vale he became Chairman of the Llantrisant and District Employers Association and also a Director of Training Services Wales.
After leaving Vale in 1997 Barry spent 5 years as Manufacturing Director of Sigma 3 Kitchens Ltd and after a brief retirement in 2002 worked for 6 years as a Business Advisor with Business in Focus, Tondu.
